There are many different upgrades to Dragon NaturallySpeaking. If you wish to upgrade, the first step is to determine your current release and product. Then the logical upgrades can be identified.
In some cases buying a new product is advised instead of upgrading, in other cases multiple upgrades may be necessary.

Release 9 requires Windows-2000 or Windows-XP for Professional, Medical, and Legal products. At least 1GB RAM is suggested although it will operate with 512MB RAM.
A minimum 1GHz CPU is required for any of the Release 9 products. Either a dual-core CPU or a single processor at least 2.5GHz is recommended. If your computer system does not meet these requirements, it may still be worthwhile buying an upgrade to Pro, Medical, or Legal to preserve future upgrade options.
Upgrade purchases include the Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 (and/or 7 or 8) Upgrade CD, Nuance's Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 (and/or 7 or 8) Manual and Nuance's technical support as applicable. Proof of prior version is required to install upgrade versions for the Professional/Medical/Legal products.

For those upgrading to Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional, Medical, or Legal, we offer special pricing, $20, for a single copy per upgrade purchased at the same time of Scripting for Dragon NaturallySpeaking® 9 (a $49 value). This provides needed documentation so that you can learn to produce the voice commands that will allow you to better customize your product. Otherwise, you must rely on disjointed on-line help files to decipher how to create the voice commands that make these products powerful.

These products are licensed PER USER. Two users, one machine requires two licenses. One user, two machines requires one license. Please call or e-mail if upgrading 4 or more licenses as other licensing options may exist. Provide your current versions (Preferred, Medical, Pro, etc.) and release numbers (5, 6, 7, 8, ...) for products you already have.

ScanSoft added several medical specialty vocabularies in Release 8. If you practice in one of those areas consider upgrading to Medical if you have had Professional. Typically the results are more accurate. We do not stock these but can special-order them at a cost of $699.

Preferred may be upgraded to Professional, Medical, or Legal, but the cost of the upgrade is normally higher than the cost of the Professional, Medical, or Legal product so we do not normally advertise these upgrades. This is a special case. ScanSoft decided (with good reason) to drop the "Public Safety" vocabularies. The product didn't sell and the vocabulary best for a narrow range of Public Safety applications. The only logical upgrade path is to Release 9 Professional. ScanSoft only allows upgrades from one or two prior releases. Do a double-upgrade now, or (given current policies) you will pay full price (now $895) for your next version.

We have a very limited number of Medical 5 to Medical 7 and Legal 5 to Legal 7 upgrades (1 Legal, 1 Medical as of June 20, 2007) in stock allowing upgrading from Release 5 to 7, after which one can upgrade from Release 7 to 9.
